Overview:
The goal of Australia Quest was to sensitively explore the wisdom that 21st century world citizens can gain from the oldest surviving culture on the planet.
In September 2000, a team of United States scientists and explorers embarked on a 1200 mile long journey called Australia Quest to learn about the unique Australian environment from an Aboriginal perspective. The Quest began in Adelaide, South Australia and ended at Uluru (Ayers Rock). A major part of their journey followed the ancient Aboriginal creation songlines and trade routes that criss-cross the continent. Traditional Aboriginal owners and relevant experts joined the Quest when appropriate.
By drawing from its long experience in developing a unique series of cultural travel experiences, Aboriginal Australia was able to connect the Quest team with Aboriginal guides and senior Aboriginal people throughout the Quest. Aboriginal Australia also undertook all the logistics and planning associated with the trip ensuring that the cultural information provided throughout the Quest was accurate, appropriate and sensitively communicated.
Through Aboriginal custodians Australia Quest provided an authentic and different story to counter the predominant stereotypes and misconceptions.
Any small group (up to 10 people) can re-live Australia Quest. The 9 Quest members shared two vehicles which provided the flexibility to allow them to determine the pace and focus of the itinerary on a daily basis with sufficient space for their food, camping equipment and bikes. Depending on your budget, whether on your own or as a group, other options (fly / guided drive) are available to experience any part or all of the Quest - just ask.
